Come home to Florida. With tax rates on the rise throughout the country, it is good to know there are places where you can live without paying state income tax. Florida is one of those great places. There is no state income tax in Florida.
This doesn’t mean our roads are in disrepair. In fact, our roads are in better condition than California’s roads – and California has a state income tax level of 9.3%. Our schools are good too, they are not unfunded. We also provide a whole host of community and state programs. All this means is that there is no state income tax in Florida. There is a state corporate income tax, set at 5% for 2009. This is much lower than other state corporate income taxes.
So consider relocating to Florida. You can take the money you pay the state in state income tax and spend it on something else. Florida is home to a great set of beaches. Maybe you want to learn to scuba dive, learn to surf, or take a snorkeling lesson. All these activities can be accomplished in Florida, and you can use the money you would save by not paying state income tax to finance them. Grandchildren love Florida too. When the grandchildren visit you can use the savings to treat them to Disney World or another one of our theme parks for a day or so. Or take your children to the park, the museum, or any one of our kid-friendly activities.
Moving to Florida makes sense if you are on a defined pension. Our sales tax rates are low; they range between 6 and 7.5%. This makes living here affordable, unlike the Bay Area in California where sales tax rates are over 8% in some locations. Defined pensions mean that you have a certain amount of money coming in, and no more. Why use that money to pay high sales tax rates, or to pay state income tax, when you do not have to? Move to Florida and enjoy the freedom that comes with having a little extra money each month that you otherwise would not have.
